Cougars Down Blue Devils in Friday Night Action!

The Sault College Cougars Women’s hockey program travelled to Southfield Michigan for a two-game set with the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. Game one was scheduled for Friday night with Cassidy Dobson getting the start in goal for the Cougars.

The Blue Devils got things started early when ACHA W2 leading scorer Sophie Buckberger broke free on a breakaway and scored top shelf to give them the early 1-0 lead. Emma Lee would tie things up for the Cougars with five minutes remaining in the opening period when Katelynn Jacques found her streaking through the neutral zone. Lee would take the defenceman wide and wire one home over the goaltender’s shoulder.

Katelynn Jacques would give the Cougars their first lead of the game in the opening minutes of the second period with assists to Zoe Weaver and Halle MacLachlan with a one timer from the slot. Alyssa Byers would extend the Cougars lead to two when she carried the puck through the Lawrence Tech defenders and capitalized on her own rebound with Materia Land picking up the assist. Jenna Jackson would cap off the scoring in the second period as she went the length of the ice and banked one off a skate form a bad angle.

The Cougars would not look back as they added to their lead in the third. Annika Babineau scored her third of the year off a tip in front with assists to Alyssa Byers & Danika West. Emma Lee would add her second of the game, before Materia Land iced it in the dying seconds to give the Cougars a 7-1 victory. Cassidy Dobson made 11 saves in the winning effort.
