The Sault College Athletics Department will host its annual Scholarship Breakfast on July 14 at the Quattro Hotel & Conference Centre. The event, which supports scholarships for Sault College student-athletes, will feature hometown hero and two-time Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs as the keynote speaker. Tickets are available at the Athletic Department or on Eventbrite.
The breakfast begins at 7:00 a.m. and will allow attendees to hear from one of Canada's most accomplished curlers. Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Jacobs made history as the first male skip to win two Olympic gold medals, leading Team Canada to victories at both the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi (Russia) and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina (Italy).
During the event, Jacobs will reflect on his journey from Sault Ste. Marie to the world stage, sharing insights on leadership, perseverance, and achieving success at the highest level of sport. Along with his Olympic accomplishments, the curler is also a Brier champion and a 2025 Pan Continental gold medalist.
Beyond competition, the two-time Olympic gold medalist has built a successful professional career as a senior marketing director and is a graduate of Algoma University, demonstrating the value of balancing athletic excellence with academic and professional achievement.
"Every year, we look forward to this event at Sault College — not only because of the incredible sports personalities who generously give their time to be part of it, but also because it is so crucial in helping us raise funds to provide scholarships for our student-athletes to pursue the sports they love", said Cougar's Director of Athletics, Paul Orazietti.
"We are thrilled that this year's scholarship breakfast will feature Sault Ste. Marie's own Brad Jacobs, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, as our guest speaker. During the event, the College will also recognize Mr. Jacobs with an honorary Sports Administration Diploma in recognition of his incredible achievements and contributions to our community", added Orazietti.
Proceeds from the Scholarship Breakfast will directly support financial awards for Sault College student-athletes, helping them balance the demands of collegiate athletics with their academic pursuits. These scholarships play a vital role in ensuring Cougars athletes have the resources needed to succeed both in competition and in the classroom.
