Cougars sink Lakers in a Sunday Match
The Sault Cougars men's hockey team delivered one of their strongest performances of the season Sunday night, powering to a decisive 4–0 victory over Lake Superior State University. From the opening puck drop, the Cougars controlled the pace, backed by a dominant offensive push and a stellar outing from goaltender Keenan Marks.
The scoring opened midway through the first period when Jakob Kovacs found the back of the net on a clean finish, giving the Cougars early momentum. Just minutes later, Dylan Winsor doubled the lead, burying the puck to send Sault into the first intermission ahead 2–0.
Winsor wasn't done yet. Late in the second period, he struck again to extend the Cougars' advantage and leave Lake Superior State searching for answers.
With the pressure already mounting, Caleb Wood put the game out of reach in the third, scoring the Cougars' fourth goal of the night and capping off a complete team effort.
On the other end of the ice, the story of the game was Marks. The netminder turned aside all 39 shots he faced, earning a well-deserved shutout and anchoring a Cougars defense that refused to bend.
The victory marks a statement win for Sault, showcasing balanced scoring, disciplined defensive play, and elite goaltending. The Cougars will look to build on Sunday's momentum as they continue their push through the season.
