Community Rallies to support student-athlete scholarships as Sault College honors Brad Jacobs
Nearly 100 local leaders, community partners, and sports representatives gathered at Quattro Hotel for a successful fundraising breakfast in support of student-athlete scholarships. Featuring Olympic champion Brad Jacobs as the special guest, the event celebrated the power of community, recognized Jacobs' remarkable contributions to Canadian sport, and raised vital funds to help Cougars' student-athletes succeed both in the classroom and in competition.
The morning began with a lively silent auction, followed by breakfast, where guests had the opportunity to network and connect. Conversations throughout the room highlighted the important role local businesses, community organizations, and supporters play in creating opportunities for student-athletes and strengthening the region's sports community.
One of the morning's highlights was an engaging on-stage conversation between Brad Jacobs and Paul Orazietti. Together, they reflected on leadership, teamwork, resilience, and the importance of giving back, sharing stories from Jacobs' career and discussing how sport can inspire individuals and bring communities together.
"This year's Scholarship Breakfast certainly did not disappoint. Brad Jacobs is a true local and Canadian sports icon, and his stories of perseverance, commitment, and dedication to excellence were both inspiring and impactful. This event is especially meaningful because it not only raises vital scholarship funds for our student-athletes but also provides an opportunity to celebrate outstanding local and national sports figures who exemplify the values we strive to instill in our students. We are excited to build on this year's success and make the 2027 Scholarship Breakfast even bigger and better.", said the Director of Athletics and Student Engagement, Paul Orazietti.
The celebration concluded with a special presentation by Sault College President Sherri Smith, who awarded Jacobs an honorary diploma in recognition of his extraordinary accomplishments on the ice and his longstanding commitment to the Sault Ste. Marie community.
The event's impact will extend well beyond the morning itself. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, sponsors, and community partners who donated items for the silent auction, funds raised will directly support scholarships for Sault College student-athletes, helping them pursue academic excellence while continuing to compete at the highest level.
