Cougars Battled in Weekend Series Against Fanshawe

The Sault Cougars women's volleyball team put together a strong showing over the weekend, with a hard-fought five-set loss on Saturday before falling narrowly in Sunday's rematch against the Fanshawe Falcons in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) action
Saturday, November 8 – Sault Cougars 2, Fanshawe Falcons 3
The Cougars opened the weekend on a high note, defeating Fanshawe in a thrilling five-set battle (26–24, 14–25, 15–25, 25–20, 8–15).
Sault started the match with intensity, edging out the Falcons in a tight set before dropping the next two. With their backs against the wall, the Cougars regrouped and responded with a composed fourth-set performance, driven by strong performances from Payton Baker, Addie Trembley, Taryn Greco, Darby Sewell and Liz Gavey.
The momentum was even in the fifth and final frame, where Fanshawe took controlled halfway through the set and never looked back.
Sunday, November 9 – Fanshawe Falcons 3, Sault Cougars 1
Sunday's rematch saw another competitive contest, with Fanshawe taking the match 3–1 (25–17, 25–13, 25–27, 25–21).
The Falcons came out strong in the opening sets, capitalizing on early Cougars' errors to build momentum. Sault responded with determination in the third set, battling through multiple set points before edging out a thrilling 27–25 win.
Despite the strong push, Fanshawe managed to hold off a late Cougars rally in the fourth set to secure the victory.
Looking Ahead
The Cougars continue to demonstrate growth early in the OCAA season. The team will look to build on their strong performances as they prepare for their next set of matches November 15 & 16, 2025 as they host the St. Clair Saints at the Health & Wellness Centre in Sault Ste. Marie.
