Cougars Battle Hard but Fall to Saints in Four-Set Thriller; Sunday Rematch Ends in Straight-Set Los
Sault Ste. Marie, ON — The Sault Cougars women's volleyball squad showed flashes of brilliance Saturday night against the St. Clair Saints, but despite a resilient effort and strong offensive performances, the Cougars ultimately fell 3–1 in a competitive OCAA matchup.
The Saints captured the opening set 25–18, capitalizing on early Cougar miscues and maintaining steady pressure from the service line. The Cougars responded in the second set with renewed energy and improved passing, grinding out a thrilling 25–23 victory to even the match.
Darby Sewell was electric at the net, leading the Cougars with 12 kills, while teammates Addie Tremblay (10) and Liz Gavey (8) provided essential offensive firepower. Their combined effort kept Sault within striking distance throughout the night.
Set three was a nail-biter as both teams traded long rallies and momentum swings, but St. Clair edged ahead late to take it 25–23. The Saints carried that momentum into the fourth set, closing out the match 25–20 despite the Cougars' late push.
On Sunday, Nov. 16, the Cougars returned to action in a rematch with St. Clair but were unable to recapture the spark from the previous night, falling in straight sets (25–9, 25–14, 25–19).
After two difficult sets, Sault found life in the third, battling point-for-point behind the determined play of Addie Tremblay, who helped rally the offense and energize the bench. The Cougars kept the frame close, but the Saints managed to close it out and seal the sweep.
With standout performances from Sewell, Tremblay, and Gavey, Sault will look to build on these efforts as they prepare for next semesters league matchups as they head on the road to take on Cambrian January 10th 2026.
